Alan Powers and Andrew Murray talk about architect Ernö Goldfinger, exploring some of his lesser known projects and his influence abroad.

With a memorable name and a few landmark buildings, Goldfinger is on many people’s radar, but detailed information on his work has sometimes been hard to find, despite a comprehensive archive. Alan Powers, co-author with the late Elain Harwood of a short but densely-packed book published in May 2024, will explain some key works that are less well known and show how they may change some of our perceptions.

Alan Powers is a historian who has specialised in mid twentieth century British art, architecture and design. He wrote the National Trust guidebook to No.2 Willow Road, and the first book on Abbatt Toys, the company for which Goldfinger designed in the 1930s. Dr Andrew Murray is a research fellow at the University of Melbourne and former caseworker at the 20th Century Society.
